TENDERS FOR CARTAGE OF FURNITURE
CONFLICT BETWEEN RAILWAY® AND PRIVATE CARRIERS (PBKSB ASSOCIiTIOIT TZLXQBUC.) NEW PLYMOUTH. March 15. Exception was taken by members of the Taranaki Education Board to-day to a letter from the Director of Education, Mr N. T. Lambourne, asking why a carriers’ tender had been accepted for the removal of teachers’ furniture instead of the tenders of the Railway Department without the Education Department’s approval. The secretary, Mr H. W. Insull, reported that he had replied to the director that in two of the cases mentioned the carrier’s tender was considerably less than that of the railways while in a third case the districts concerned were not connected by railway. Mr W. H. Jones: If we cannot use our common sense it is no use sitting here. The board decided to forward the secretary’s reply to the Minister for Education (the Hon. P. Fraser).
