NEARLY £2OO RAISED
ANNUAL STREET APPEAL YESTERDAY SOCIETY FOR PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN Nearly £2OO was raised at the annual street appeal yesterday of the Christchurch Society for the Protection of Women and Children. This is regarded as a very satisfactory result. There were about 150 collectors busy in the city streets throughout the day, and they met with a generous response from the public. Collections were reported last evening to have amounted to £195, with one box still to be returned. The result of last year’s appeal, £126, was affected by the bad weather on .the day of the collection. “The response was most gratifying," said Mr J. Andrews, who organised the appeal, last evening. "It is evidence that the public recognises the value of the work of the society, which greatly appreciates this indication of confidence and assistance." Mr Andrews said that the collectors had been most painstaking in their work.
