BODY WASHED UP ON BEACH
DEATH OF PUBLIC WORKS
EMPLOYEE
The body of Ernest Nicholas, a single man, aged 40 years, and an employee of the Public Works Department, was found washed up on the New Brighton beach at 5 a.m. on Sunday. Ho was last seen on Christmas Day. • An inquest was opened yesterday morning before the Coroner, Mr E. C. Levvey, and Jes Elstob gave evidence of identification. Nicholas had left Elstob’s home on Christmas Day slightly intoxicated, and had said he was going to a hotel in Christchurch. Elstob had never heard Nicholas express the intention when drunk of taking his life. Nicholas came into the city at week-ends only. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
