WELLINGTON RAIL TRAFFIC
MANY EXTRA EXPRESSES REQUIRED
CP BBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAII.J
WELLINGTON, January 2,
Though not to be compared with the Christmas rush, New Year traffic at the Wellington railway station was again heavy. Outward trains on Friday and Saturday, and again to-day, were well patronised, particularly on the main trunk. Detailed figures of the number of passengers carried are not yet available; but New Year traffic is believed to have been heavier than in previous years. Though fewer trains were run at the New Year than during the Christmas rush period, five expresses from Wellington to Auckland were necessary t3o-day to cope with the traffic offering. The limited scheduled to leave Wellington at 7.15 p.m. to-morrow is fully booked, and the limiteds leaving Auckland for Wellington on Sunday night and again to-night, were also fully booked. Usually two express trains each way are sufficient to cater for the travelling public between Wellington and Auckland, but four trains will leave each terminal daily between now and January 4, after which one extra express will leave Auckland and one will leave Wellington until January 9. As in other years, more persons left Wellington for the holidays than arrived; but the rush of inward traffic in the New Year is not as heavy as that experienced during the last three days before Christmas.
