CHRISTCHURCH-HANMER AIR SERVICE SUGGESTED

TO THE EDITOR Of THE PRESS Sir, —It has frequently occurred to me that a project worthy of consideration would be the inauguration of an air service between Christchurch and Hanmer Springs. I believe such a service would be a great boon to Christchurch residents and an added attraction to visitors to the South Island.

Hanmer has a reputation all its own as a health resort and for the efficacy of its mineral waters, both for drinking and baths, and for its pure mountain air. The run would only be about an hour’s duration, and would be a pleasurable experience—not long enough to be tedious, even to the aged. It would, I feel sure, become the most popular air service in New Zealand. About the cost of such a service I know nothing. Surely ifr would not be prohibitive. Possibly the Government Tourist Department would defray the cost of the Hanmer aerodrome. At this end we have the Harewood aerodrove now in course of construction.— Yours, etc., R. J. PENROSE.
