There are now three by-elections pending—in East Norfolk, where the Liberal National member, Viscount Elmley, on the death of his father, Earl Beauchamp, became a member of the House of Lords; the Rippon division of Yorkshire, where there is a vacancy through the death of Major J. W. Hills; and the Holderness division.
