WELLINGTON, December 26,

The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:

Light and variable winds, southerly predominating at first, northerly later. Weather fair to fine and becoming warmer. Seas slight to moderate with a decreasing southerly swell.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast is:—

Light and variable winds, later tending to north-westerly and freshening. Weather fair at first but cloud increasing and conditions later becoming unsettled again in the south. Warmer temperatures. Seas, slight to moderate.

DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:—

Occasional showers along the east coast south of East Cape, but improving and weather probably fair to fine and warmer generally by to-morrow. Cloud Increasing later, however, in the western and southern portions of the South Island. The last of the recent depressions has moved off the Dominion, and pressure is now rising generally. With the advance of an anticyclone, which has been centred to-day off the coast of New South Wales, pressure has fallen' again, however, in Tasmania.

Winds —Moderate to strong, but decreasing southerly winds turning gradually to west or north-west about and south of Cook Strait and later freshening again in the far south. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough south of East Cape and north of Cape Egmont, but decreasing and otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate southerly winds turning to westerly in the southern portion and to southeasterly in the northern. Seas slight to moderate.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather in Christchurch during the week-end was changeable with cool to moderate temperatures. There was a light north-easterly wind on Saturday and temperatures were cool, 4.2 degrees of frost being recorded in the morning. South-westerly winds prevailed throughout Sunday, which was mainly fine, with periods of sunshine. There were some light showers in the evening. Yesterday the weather was changeable and showery, with a strong south-westerly wind. Temperatures were cool.

At 1 o’clock this morning it was raining steadily, and there was a strong south-westerly wind. The temperature was 50 degrees, and the barometer, at 30.01 inches, was rising.

IN OTHER PLACES

Auckland—Saturday was cloudy and fine, with a moderate wind from the south-west, and rain at night. The wind veered from the north-west to the west on Sunday, and there were heavy showers in the morning. The afternoon was fine. The wind again veered from the north-west to the west yesterday, blowing at times from fresh to strong. Squally showers were experienced during the day. The maximum temperature yesterday was 70 degrees and the barometer rose, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.74 in.

Wellington—Saturday was sunny in the moning, but rain set in about 5 p.m., and continued till 3 a.m. on Sunday. Although the weather was threatening at times there were intervals of sunshine and no rain fell till 9 p.m.

A strong and gusty north-west wind prevailed and changed to a fresh southerly early yesterday morning, the weather continuing cold and showery. The afternoon was pleasant. The maximum temperature yesterday was 58.2 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the temperature was 57.7 degrees and the barometer at 29.693 in.

Dunedin—The weather during the week-end remained unsettled and changeable. On Saturday grey skies were accompanied by a light to fresh south-westerly wind. Towards evening light rain began and later there were some fairly heavy showers. Intermittent rain on Sunday morning was followed by an improvement in the afternoon. Yesterday morning rain fell, but the weather improved later, and the sun shone almost without interruption during the afternoon. There was a strong south-west wind. The barometer at 5 p.m. had risen to 29.90 in.
