MINING
ARGO The Argo return for the week ended December 24 was 105 ounces for 131 hours and 14,000 yards.
BIG RIVER
The Big River return for the month of December is as follows: —
Battery department: 236 tons of ore crushed for 140oz* 16dwt melted gold.
Cyanide department: 300 tons of sands treated for 320z 2dwt bullion. Total estimated value; £ll2O.
In addition 3J tons of concentrates were saved, valued at £9B. In estimating the above values gold has been taken at £7 a fine ounce.
NOKOMAI
A partial washup at the Nokomai Company’s claim yielded 5630z 2dwt.
ALEXANDER
The Alexander mine report lor December is:— . , No. 6 Drive—Advanced 95 feet, making 296 feet from main crosscut. Reel track has been followed, which in places carried heavy minerals. In the last 25 feet strata is fairly flat and ground hard. No. 5 Intermediate Drive (north) — Advanced 22 feet on reef track carrying quartz leaders. This face has been stopped. Driving was commenced on north end of stone which showed above the level timbers. This was driven on for 31 feet on reef, averaging 18 inches wide. The reef then faulted into the hanging wall, which appeared to be very broken. When this stone was opened up it proved to be 12 inches wide and appeared to go under foot. After holidays crosscut will be put out in the eastern wall of the level to ascertain if this stone goes down.
Stoping has been carried out above the intermediate level north and south of winze. Reef is two feet wide in south stope, but there has been no improvement in grade. Reef in face of north stope will average 54 inches wide. This stone shows free gold. Some filling in the stopes has been done in order to strengthen the timber during the holidays. A total of 225 tons of ore was sent to the battery for the month. Operations closed down for Christmas and New Year holidays on December 21 and will resume on January 4. The returns for December were: —
Battery department: 243 tons of ore crushed for 1370z 6dwt of melted gold. Cyanide department: 184 tons of sands treated for 270z 14dwt of bullion. oTtal estimated value: £ll2O. In addition 5 k tons of concentrates were saved, valued at £175.
In estimating the above values gold has been taken at £7 a fine ounce.
NEW RIVER
The New River return for the week ended December 22 was 66 ounces from 7500 yards treated in 128 hours.
GOLDEN POINT The mine manager reports that operations at the Golden Point mine at Macraes Plat, which is being worked under option by the Macraes Flat Gold and Scheelite Company, closed for the year last Friday. Work will be resumed on January 4. Two shifts were worked most of the December period, and 136 tons of stone were crushed. From this a return of 590z 16dwt of retorted gold was secured oft the amalgamation tables. In addition four tons of concentrates, assaying approximately 4J ounces to the ton, were saved. Most of the old drives have been cleared, and the underground staff is now practically the whole of the time employed working on quartz. The December return shows the very satisfactory yield of just on 9dwt to the ton off the plates. Two good bodies of Stone are now being mined.
BULOLO For the month of November the total gross production of Bulolo Gold Dredging, Ltd., amounted to 20,401 ounces of bullion, containing 14,139 ounces of fine gold from 1,210,000 cubic yards. Estimated working profit was 0441 ounces of fine gold. The production is equivalent to £123,716 and working profit to £82,009 on the basis of £8 15s (Australian) a fine ounce of gold.
