CHRISTMAS TOURNEY AT SHIRLEY
TRYING CONDITIONS EXPERIENCED
MERITORIOUS WIN FOR L. A. DOUGALL
The Christchurch Club’s Christmas tournament was begun at Shirley yesterday in wintry conditions. The early starters in the morning were faced with heavy wind and rain, and it was hot until the afternoon that the weather improved. The course was probably in its best playing order, for this time of the year, for many years. Stretched to its full length, the course presented a difficult problem, and considering the weather scores generally were good. One of the later starters, L. A. Dougall, had a meritorious win in the bogey handicap played in the morning. His card of 1 up under such trying conditions was a magnificent effort. Dougall’s stroke round was 76, and with one exception was the best in the morning. The scoring generally was better in the afternoon for the four-ball bogey handicap, which resulted in a tie between C. J. Ward and Miss J. Stevenson, and G. N. Francis and T. Davies with scores of 5 up. BOGEY HANDICAP
