FLANNEL DANCE AT CHEVIOT

ST. JOHN’S LADIES’ GUILD

A successful flannel dance was held m the Town Hall, Cheviot, to conclude the bazaar and flower show organised by members of St. John’s Ladies* Guild. Music was supplied by Mrs H. Fomison and extras by Miss Clayton. Mr C. Honeybone directed the programme. Those present included Mesdames W. Fitzgerald, A. Williamson, G. Walls, W. Dreaver. H. V. Marquet, J. Rentoul, H. PARTY AT WEST EYRETON

An enjoyable Christmas party was held in the West Eyreton Hall when the West Eyreton School Committee, assisted by the schoolmaster, entertained pupils and their parents. Father Christmas presented to each child a gift from the well-laden Christmas tree.

Items were given by Misses Rosemary and Alice Doak (pianoforte duet) and Leicester Thompson (pianoforte solo).

The chairman (Mr R. W. Thompson) presented prizes won in the Agricultural Club’s competition, as follows: Best calf, Master Stewart Busch and Leicester Thompson; lambs, C. Brain; garden, Joyce Reid and Jean Doak. Leaving certificates were presented to Margaret Doak, Hilda Jackson, Jean Doak, Owen Woodfield, and Leicester Thompson. Mr J. E. Horrell and Mr E. A. Woodfield thanked the organisers for their hospitality.

CONCERT AT CHOLMONDELEY HOME

To entertain the staff of the Cholmondeley Memorial Children’s Home, at Governor’s Bay, the secretary (Miss F. L. Cooper) arranged for a concert party to visit the home last night, and a very pleasant time was spent. Under Miss Pessy Hollander’s direction musical and elocutionary items were presented and were much appreciated by the audience. After the concert, a buffet supper was enjoyed. Christmas presents from the committee were presented to the staff members by the president (Mrs Derisley Wood), who congratulated them on the capable manner in which they carry out their duties. Mrs Wood also thanked Miss Hollander and the assisting artists for the pleasure they had given. i
