NURSES ENTERTAIN FRIENDS

The annual Christmas dance, at which the nurses at the Cashmere Sanatorium entertain their friends, was held last night in the large dining-room at the Sanatorium. The room was gaily decorated and a big fire blazed cheerily at one’ end. Music was played by the Chancery Court band. The organising committee included the matron, Miss A. Griffin, Nurses M. AUSTRALIAN CLUB

Members of the Australian Club and children gathered in the Druids’ Hall for a most enjoyable Christmas party arranged by the ladies’ ‘ social committee of the club.

Father Christmas presented every child with a toy, sweets, and ice cream. Items were given by Misses J. Ritchie and D. Bruce (duet), E. Graham (song)), Wilson and Pocock (Irish jig), D. Sanders (Hungarian dance)), Mr Siverton (conjuring)), and Miss Stefferman (humorous sketch). Dancing was enjoyed later in the evening. Among those present were Mesdames Parsons, Coutts, Taylor, Hadley, Lill, Richardson, Buchanan, Rodgers, Wright, Powell. E. Williamson, Large, Cooper, Johnston. Lindley, Perrin, Huggins. P. ENGAGEMENT NOTICE

The ' engagement is announced of John Robert Price, youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. L. Price, Hawkesbury avenue, to Joan, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. J. Gallagher, Huxley street.

PARTY AND PRESENTATION

In honour of his approaching marriage, Mr S. R. Rimmer, a prominent Canterbury swimmer, was presented with a set of crystal, at a gathering of club members held at Tattersall’s Hotel last evening. On behalf, of the East Christchurch Club, the president, Mr Nortontaylor, offered Mr Rimmer the club’s congratulations and best wishes for the future and his remarks were endorsed by Mr J. Mackenzie, president of the Canterbury Centre, who also made reference to Mr Rimmer’s fine influence upon swimming in Canterbury. Other speakers who conveyed to Mr Rimmer and his future wife messages of goodwill from various swimming and surf clubs were Miss D. Brown, Messrs V. G. Spiller. A. T. F. Stokes, T. W. Thomson, L. Donaldson and M. T. Butterick.

COMING-OF-AGE PARTIES

Mr and Mrs C. Moran (Suburban, Kaikoura) entertained many friends at the Suburban Hall in honour of the twenty-first birthday anniversary of their daughter, Muriel. Mrs W. D. Sabiston and Messrs V. Wright and Kermode supplied the music for dancing, and Messrs Colin Moran and N. Guthrie were masters of ceremonies. A lucky spot dance was won by Miss C. Gill and partner, and a Monte Carlo dance by Mrs M. Dunn and Mr Kermode.

Mr and Mrs A. A. Cooper (New Brighton) held an evening social to celebate the coming of age of their only daughter, Adelyn. Among those present were Mr and Mrs A. A. Cooper, Mr and Mrs B. W. LINWOOD-AVONSIDE SUE BRANCH

At a meeting of the Linwood-Avon-side sub-branch of the Plunket Society, Nurse N. G. Garland reported that for the month of November she had attended 183 mothers and 185 babies, and apart from measles, which were still fairly prevalent among mothers and babies, the health of the babies had been good. The treasurer, Mrs H. Ayers, reported that the sum of £ 1 3s 5d had been received.
