SAFETY IN COAL MINES
BRITISH ROYAL COMMISSION’S REPORT
(BRITISH omeut WIRELESS.) RUGBY, December 21. The report of the Royal Commisfcion on Safety in Coal Mines, which sat for three years, emphasises that mining is the most dangerous of all major industries, with an average annual loss of life of about 850, but the commission believes that with the necessary effort these terrible figures can be reduced. The commission emphasised the need for a change of attitude in the mining industry itself—among owners, officials, and workers alike —leading to a higher standard of professional conduct regarding safety.
