NEW yacht arrives

The keel yacht Dorade, which was recently purchased from an Auckland owner by Mr C. Allen, of Christchurch, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday by the steamer Waipiata. The Dorade is of a type new to Lyttelton, being a raised deck cruising yacht, Bermuda rigged. She is 26 feet in length, and is equipped with an auxiliary engine. The Trilby, one of the fastest yachts on Otago harbour, which was purchased recently by Mr J. Cross, of Christchurch, is to be sailed up from Dunedin to Lyttelton during the coming holidays. The well-known Auckland yacht Wairiki. recently acquired by Mr A. Mills, of Christchurch, from Captain Joyce, is to arrive at Lyttelton shortly. The Wairiki was ihe winner of the annual ocean race from Auckland to Tauranga on three occasions. Yachts built in Christchurch and which will be launched during the holidays, include the Sea Way, a Cape Cod type of yacht s-milar to but larger than the Sea Kid and the~Mabs, an improved Cyclone type of craft designed by Mr E. Cox. The Sea Way is owned by Mr W. Ayling and the Mabs by Mr V. Claude. Obituary Mr Royal Bennetts, whose death occurred at his home in Oxford street yesterday morning, was a veteran of the South African War. Born in Christchurch 57 years ago, Mr Bennetts later lived in Timaru, where he ’worked for a stock firm. He played for the Star Football Club. Timaru. On the outbreak of the South African War. Mr Bennetts enlisted with the South Canterbury Mounted Rifles and saw service throughout the war. Later he worked for the New Zealand Express Company, Lyttelton, and on the waterfront. He was a member of the Lyttelton branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and was also a member of the. Hearts of Oak Druids Lodge, which was later merged with the Ivy of Linwood Lodge. He leaves a widow, two sons, Messrs D. Bennetts (Devonport, Auckland), and F. H. Bennetts (Christchurch), and by two daughters. Mrs R. J. Loader (Christchurch) and Miss Gladys Bennetts (Lyttelton).
