LYTTELTON LANDING FACILITIES

TO THE EDITOR OT THE PRESS Sir,—Mr H. W. Heslop’s letter published yesterday was most timely. It is not too much for these poor interisland passengers to expect the Union Steam Ship Company to provide a proper stair-gangway (designed similarly to a ship’s companion ladder). Certainly something a little less primitive than the present plank gangway is expected of a so-called modern service.

The need for improvement in the present facilities is so apparent that surely the company concerned will do something about the matter now that its attention has been called to it.— Yours, etc., FREQUENT TRAVELLER. December 21, 1938.

TO THE EDITOR OT THE PRESS Sir, —I was very pleased to read in the columns of your paper that the dangerous landing facilities afforded at Lyttelton by the ferry steamer have been brought to notice. As one who recently experienced this danger; I entirely endorse the suggestions of your correspondent.—Yours, etc., ELDERLY TRAVELLER. December 21. 1938.
