WORK ON THE QUEEN ELIZABETH

ARTISTS AND ARCHITECTS ENGAGED

Cwoji am on coxaxspoxszcrj LONDON, November 10The "Yorkshire Post" states that half a dozen leading British artists are already at work on designs for the interior decoration of the Queen Elizabeth. Mr Grey Wornum, architect of the R.1.3.A. headquarters in Portland place, has been appointed "Minister for the Co-ordination of Design." He will be responsible for the whole of the decorative schemes throughout the vesseL His studies for the work have necessitated voyages in the Queen Mary.

Mr Wornum does not seem to know about his new designation, for he says: "I am actually decorative artist for the public rooms of the Cabin Class." Mr Wornums wife—formerly Miss Miriam Gerstle, of California—is also on the "list of artists for the Queen Elizabeth, and among the others preparing designs are Mr Maurice Lambert and Mr Bainbridge CopnalL the sculptor. whose latest work adorns the new Adelphi building off the Strand. Now he is to show his versatility by making designs for decorations in glass. Work by Mr Hector Whistler will b>i seen about the liner's swimming pool, and Mr Dennis Dunlop, whf worked with Mr Wornum on the R.1.8.A. building, for which he carved some notable panels in wood, is also engaged in the work. Mr Anthony Tripe, of Wellington, is gaining experience on Mr Wornam's staff, and is associated with his chief on several new buildings for whica the firm are architects.
