GOVERNMENT'S VIEW SOUGHT IN COMMONS
(Received December 21, 7.10 pjn.)
LONDON, December 2a
In reply to the Rev. R. W. Sorensen (Labour) in the House of Commons, the Secretary of State for the Dominions (Mr Malcolm MacDonald) said that he had received no communication from the New Zealand Government relating to the letter from the Federation of British Industries.
Mr Sorensen: Does Mr Mac Donald agree 'with the sentiments expressed in the letter. Mr Mac Donald: "I have not said anything of the sort. I did not intend to imply it." r He added that he agreed that New Zealand had the right to conduct its trading; in its own way .without mtexference from anyone in England. Mr Arthur Henderson (Labour): Does Mr Mac Donald for the Government express disapproval .of any attempt by financial quarters here to bring pressure to bear on the New Zealand Government because they do not agree with New Zealand's economic policy. Mr Mac Donald: I think the New Zealand Government is capable of looking after itself. (Cheers.)
