SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICITY
TO THE JSDITOE OF THE PBESS Sir, —I have noticed in "The Press" that there are doubts about the supply of electricity. Some have advocated going back to steam, but I think the best and cheapest would be to use some of the present supply of water
to drive a water engine, which would not require very much of the water at present available, and supply sufficient electricity for the South Island from Coleridge alone. In the past the water engine was too slow, but I have studied it until I can design one which will be quick and efficient, and require little looking after, and even if put in where no turbine had been, could be installed for the cost of carting the material for a turbine. 'lf anyone is interested in this matter, please give them my address.— Yours, etc., WATER POWER. December 20, 1938.
