PHYSICAL WELFARE COUNCIL

APPOINTMENT OF LOCAL COMMITTEE

Appointments to the local committees of the National Council for Physical Welfare and Recreation will be made directly by the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E." Parry), according to advice which has been received by the New Zealand Cycling Federation. ' It is likely that the committee in Christchurch will consist of about 10 persons. The federation recently wrote to the Minister asking that it should have representation on the committee. A reply has been received from Mr J. W. Heenan, Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs. Mr Heenan's letter says that the personnel of the committee is to consist of representatives of the City Council together with persons appointed by the Minister. These persons would be so appointed for their ability to give service to the community in general, and not because they represented any particular body. Mr Heenan said that the federation's interest would receive consideration.
