ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

DEMONSTRATION NIGHT AT SUMNER The Sumner nursing, ' ambulance, and cadet divisions of the St. John Ambulance held a final demonstration night and social at the Masonic HalL There was a full muster on parade and many guests, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Sumner (Mr and Mrs J. E. Tait), the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. F. E. Eldridge), the president 6f the divisions (Mr G. P. Allen), and the district transport officer (Mr J. Dickson) and Mrs Dickson. .A programme of demonstration events included cases» of motor and bicycle accidents, stretcher drill, bedmaking, and nursing attendance. Explanations of the work were given by Superintendent J. Lindroos, of the ambulance division. In presenting the trophies, the Deputy-Mayor (Mr Eldridge) said he had been astounded at the ,work he had seen during the evening. He congratulated the divisions on their efficiency. The Mayor (Mr J. E. Tait) said he was surprised at the strength of the three divisions. The borough was fortunate in having such a volunteer service. The trophies were awarded as follows:—lnterborough individual championship, C. P. Ford; interborough individual ladies’ championship, Miss B. O’Neill (equal) 2; interborough ladies’ individual championship, Miss H. Roberton; interdivision competition, Sumner A team; interdivision ambulance and cadets (Allen Cup), ambulance division; cadet efficiency, J. Gale; cadet individual competition, D. Stephens. Members of the nursing division made a presentation to the lady superintendent, Mrs H. E. Garrard. PRESENTATION TO MR C. H. BURNETT FORMER MEMBER OP PARLIAMENT HONOURED TAURANGA, December 17. Citizens of Tauranga met yesterday to pay tribute to Mr C. H. Burnett, member for Tauranga in the last Parliament. The Mayor (Mr D..A. Wilkinson) presided, and expressed the town’s appreciation of the excellent services rendered by Mr Burnett during his term as member. Mr G. H. Mends (chairman of the County Council), Mr A. J. Mirrilees (chairman of the Harbour Board), Mr C. J. West (chairman of the Mount Maunganui Town Board), and Mr F. ■ W. Doidge, M.P. for Tauranga, also spoke of the enthusiasm Mr Burnett had shown in working for the good of the electorate. The Mayor presented Mr Burnett with a cheque for 100 guineas, and Mrs Burnett with a silver tea service. In returning thanks, Mr Burnett said it had always # been his endeavour to assist in all matters affecting the district’s welfare. He was deeply grateful for the tangible recognition of his efforts.
