Mrs Theo. Barker and Misses Jill and Judith Barker (Salisbury street west) are spending a holiday in the Bay of Islands after visiting Wanganui and touring the North Island. Miss H. S. Bonifant and Miss Molly Bonifant (Ashburton), who have been for a trip to the East, have returned home. Mrs- Edward Inman (Fairlie) is staying at Warwick House. Mrs W. W. Wade, who has been spending several months at Timaru, has returned to her flat at “Malmesbury,” Church lane, Merivale. Mrs Albert Harris (Bath street) left Christchurch yesterday morning for Pareora, to be the guest of Mrs James, Winchester. Mr W. A. Armour, principal of Wellington College, and Mrs Armour will arrive in Christchurch tomorrow, and will stay at the United Service Hotel. Dr. and Mrs C. E. Beeby and family (Wellington) will arrive in Christchurch this morning. Dr. and Mrs J. R. Loughnan will leave Fairlie next week to make their home at Scargill. Mrs O. T. J. Alpers (Fendalton), who is visiting England, will arrive back in Christchurch in January. Mrs A. M. Spence-Glark (Clifton, Sumner) will leave to-day for Geraldine to , visit her daughter, Mrs Drummond Sharpe. Miss Peggy Snow (Invercargill), who has been visiting her sister, Mrs L. W. Matson, Fendalton, returned home yesterday. Mrs J. J. Hinchcliff, Miss E. M. Hinchcliff, and Mrs R. L. Luke (Dunedin) are visiting Hanmer Springs and Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Edgar Cone, of London, will leave England in November and travel to New Zaaland via Canada, arriving in Dunedin early in the New Year. Mrs Cone, who was formerly Miss Greta Stevenson, M. of Otago University, left for England four years ago to further her studies in botany, and will assist in the department of Otago University while Dr. J. E. Holloway, F. lecturer in botany in the University, is in England next year. Mr and Mrs G. E. Talbot will leave by the steamer express to-night to join the Mariposa at Auckland for a visit to the United States of America. Miss Tui Taylor and Miss L. Payne (Timaru) left yesterday for a visit to Auckland. Miss Molly Orbell (Pentlow) has returned from a visit to Mrs Redmond Neill, Mount Somers. Mrs D. H. Kennedy (New Brighton), who will leave shortly to make her home at Karitane, was the guest of honour at an afternoon party. Miss H. Moore was hostess at this gathering and the guests were Mesdames Kennedy, W. Flavell, Charters, Bielby, Lovell, Brown, Butler, Misses Alexander, Helen Butler, Coleen Flavell, Valerie Charters, and Moore. Miss D. Stubbs (Wai-jti avenue) is visiting Invercargill. HUTCHINSON MOTORS, LIMITED STAFF’S NINTH ANNUAL DANCE Many guests accepted the invitations issued by the staff members of Hutchinson Motors, Ltd.,. for their ninth annual dance held last evening at the Winter Garden, and the ballroom had been specially decorated with streamers to give a carnival atmosphere. Excellent arrangements to ensure the comfort and entertainment of the guests had been made by a committee : comprising Miss Grace Prebble (honorary treasurer), Messrs W. L. McCollum (chairman), C. Cochrane, L. Salkeld, A. Hughes, A. Tongue, R. Allen, L. G. Burrell, and M. B. Walker (honorary secretary). The guests of honour were. Mr O. Hutchinson (general manager) and Mrs Hutchinson, Mr and Mrs H. P. Ralph, and Mr and Mrs N. H. McCrostie. Mrs Hutchinson wore a Botticelli blue flat crepe frock 'with fringed revers and a shoulder spray of orchids and lily-of-the-valley; Mrs Ralph trimmed the neck-line of her opal taffeta frock with a cluster of yellow and .flame flowers; Mrs McCrostie’s frock of black ninon was patterned in an all-over design Of silver roses; Miss Prebble wore a harebell blue lace frock with flared frills at the hemline and shoulder! to match a central panel of georgette which was finished with small silver buttons.
