ANNUAL DANCE

MONEY ORDER AND SAVINGS BANK The combined staffs of the Money Order and Savings Bank held their annual dance in the Jellicoe Hall, which presented a carnival appearance with its decorations of balloons and streamers. Prizes for a Monte Carlo dance were wen by Miss Doris Hurd and Mr Jack Bowman, and for a lucky Spot dance by Miss Jill Leece and Mr Lester Scott. Music was supplied by the lanthe Dance Band. The committee responsible for the arrangement of .. this successful function was; Misses Runa Olliver, Lucy Hill, Edna Chainey, Messrs V. P. Peters (honorary’ secretary), J. Harty, M. Bunting, P. R. Ryan, D. Tierney, E. A. Powell. Mr C. L. Harwbod acted as master of ceremonies. The guests of honour who attended were: Mr F. W. Purby (Chief Postmaster) and Mrs Furby, Mr W. J. Mlnogue (Deputy-Chief Postmaster) and Mrs H. A. Young, S.M. (chairman of the Post and Telegraph Appeal Board), Mr J. T. Dunlop (accountant), and Mrs Dynlop, Mr C. L. A pleasant time was spent at "Dumgree, when Mrs T. Renwick entertained some of her friends at a dinner party. Mrs Renwick wore a black and silver frock. Those present were Mr and Mrs T. Watts, Mr and Mrs G. M. Spence, Mr and Mrs L. H. Clouston, Mrs R. CarBon8 on (Wellington), Misses Hiley and Coulter, Messrs A. A. Macnab, G. Coulter, and R. Clouston. Mrs A. J. Maclaine is visiting Wellington. Mrs L. C. Chaytor has returned from a visit to Wellington. Miss L. Morrin is visiting her sister, Mrs G. Briant, Marton. Mrs Leicester Murray is visiting Chistchurch. Mr and Mrs W. L. Oswald “Duntroon’” have returned from a visit to Timaru. Miss D. Furness has returned from a visit to Palmerston North.

COMING-OF-AGE PARTIES

The Dunsandel Town Hall was gaily decorated with shrubs and apricot, lemon and green streamers, when Mr and Mrs James Walker (“Southwood,” Dunsandel) entertained friends from many parts of Canterbury to celebrate the coming-of-age of tneir younger daughter, Molly. During the evening, Messrs W. D. and J. L, Walker, with Mr N. Mcllraith at the drums, played selections on the bagpipes. Monte Carlo prizes were won by Mr G. Lloyd and Mrs E. Currie, and. Mr and Mrs E. Watson. Winners of competitions were Mr A, Walker and Miss C. Aldridge. Dance music was supplied by Colin Campbell’s Band (Christchurch). Mr J. Smith, who was headmaster during Miss Walker’s term at the local school, proposed the toast to the guest of honour, end presented her with a xylonite toilet set.
