Under the Passports Bill introduced into the Federal House by the Minister for the Interior, it will not be necessary for persons leaving Australia in future to obtain a passport. Under the bill an authorised officer could issue passports, but it would not be an offence to leave the country without one. Australia was the only British country where it still was necessary to obtain a passport. Persons wishing to visit foreign lands, however, would be advised to obtain one to avoid unnecessary delay and trouble at frontiers.
