FACTION FIGHTING CONTINUES

PANIC THROUGHOUT THE CITY (OTHTED FXKBB *.BBOCUTIO»—COPTEIGHT.) (Received July 29, 7.30 p.m.) RANGOON, July 29. Forty persons have been killed and 250 injured in the riots during the last three days. Other dead and injured may lie in the wreckage of houses. The rioting continues. Mohammedan shops have been looted. Very fierce faction fighting is going on. An Indian timber yard was set on firs by a group dressed as Buddhist priests. The series of incidents after the communal rioting on July 26 has led to a panic throughout the city. The Mayor’s car was stoned. Business has been brought to a standstill.

RENEWED FIGHTING IN THE STREETS

ARMOURED CAR PATROLS TRY TO KEEP ORDER (Received July 30, 12.30 a.m.) RANGOON, July 29. Police and troops are attempting to evacuate the Burmese from the Indian quarters of the city, and the Indians from the Burmese quarters. Fighting has been renewed in the streets, in spite of the presence of patrols of the Yorkshire Light Infantry with armoured cars. It was impossible to prevent swift stabs in the dark and sporadic looting, but the banks and jewellers’ shops are heavily guarded.
