MAORI CHOIR'S VISIT TO SYDNEY
♦ (Received July 29. 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 28. The "Sun" reports a visit by the Maori choir to the charitable settlement, Hammondville, established by Canon Hammond. A large pig was cooked in Maori fashion in the earth and served to the settlers and their families, who greatly relished it and treated it as a rare novelty. The chieftainess, Hepe Apatu, in a Maori costume, supervised the cooking. Bishop Bennett acted as host to a most delighted gathering.
