PLANNED SCHEME OF MIGRATION
* PROPOSAL SUPPORTED BT TIMARU MEETING (THE PRESS Spcdal Sendee.] TEMARU, July 27. A carefully-planned scheme of migration from Great Britain to New Zealand, mainly to relieve the Dominion's vital problem of shortage of population, was urged by Mr A. Leigh Hunt, of the Dominion Settlement Association. in an address given at Timaru under the auspices of the Timaru Rotary Club. The Mayor CMr W. G. Tweedy! presided. At the conclusion of the address the following motion was carried: “That this public meeting earnestly draws attention to the serious position of the Dominion because of its sparse population and its imminent decline, which is fraught with the gravest consequences, and urges as a matter of immediate and vital importance that all Parliamentarians and public men actively support the formulation of a long-range plan for the introduction of suitable migrants from Great Britain on a substantial scale under planned and financed schemes, and that a Dominion conference, representative of all interests, be held not later than October next for this purpose.”
