SUPPLY FOR ASHBURTON RIVERS ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY MEETS There were at present 350,000 brown trout ova in the hatchery, 90,000 of which were approaching the eyeing stage, said Mr A. J. Millichamp (chairman) at the monthly meeting of the cqpncil of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society on Tuesday evening, in reporting on visits made to Lake Heron. The chairman said that the conference of neighbouring societies which had been held at Ashburton at the end of June could bo considered a success, and closer co-operation between the societies would result. The conference had come (o an agreement about uniform tackle to be used with lure or bait, and the following was suggested as the new regulation: No person shall in fishing for trout or other acclimatised fish, with lure or bait, use more than one set of triple hooks of a greater size than that known as number foilr ami two single hooks of a greater size than that known as number five, and the said triple hooks must be affixed, bolow the single hooks. On tackle consisting of three single hooks only, the size of the hooks shall not exceed that known as number five. Not more than one lure or bait shall be used, and hooks other than single or triple honks shall not be used on such lure or bait. A letter was received from the council of South Island societies, asking the Ashburton Society’s view on the proposal to open the game season on the first Saturday m May in future, instead of the first day of May. It was decided to advise that the society favoured the opening of the game season on the first Saturday in May. DANCE AT METHVEN Former pupils of the Methven District High School held a dance in the Anglican Hall on Tuesday night. There was a very large attendance. Music was played by Cook’s orchestra, and extras by Miss Helen Petrie and Mr W; Lock. Mr J. E. Compton was master of ceremonies. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss White and Mr N. Wootton and a Monte Carlo by Miss Ngaire Campbell and Mr Shearer.
