OBITUARY
* MR J. B, REID (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) INVERCARGILL, July 27. The death occurred to-day of Mr John Bertram Reid, a well-known public accountant in Invercargill. He was Southland councillor on the New Zealand Society of Accountants and had been president of the Invercargill Stock Exchange Association for the last 12 months. At one time Mr Reid was a member of the Star Rowing Club, Wellington, and of the Wanganui Rowing Club. He was also a member of the Rotary Club. He is survived by three brothers, Messrs F. W. Reid, principal of the South Australian School of Mines, A. J. Reid, manager of Lempriere, Ltd., Sydney, and G. W. Reid, of the firm of W. E. C. Reid and Company, Dunedin. MR FREDERICK JOHNSON The death occurred recently of Mr Frederick Johnson, of Winton street, St. Albans. Mr Johnson was born in England in 1852. He came to New Zealand with his wife in the ship Hereford in 1874. The voyage lasted three months. Mr and Mrs Johnson settled in the Ashburton district. Mr Johnson joined the Railway Department in January, 1876, a position he held until 1908. Six months later he became inspector for the Hampstead Town Board, until 1920, when he resigned because of the death of his wife. He was a member of the first Hampstead School Committee in 1886. He was the oldest and a charter member of the Star of Ashburton U.A.O.D. Lodge. He held the office of Past Arch Druid. There were nine children, of whomtwo predeceased him. The family are: Messrs F. W, Johnson (Ashburton), G. H. Johnson (Dunedin), C. C. Johnson (Christchurch), Mesdames R. H. Bennett (Milton), E. Parkin, J. E. Bryant (Ashburton), and V. Walters (Christchurch). There are 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Tile funeral took place at the Ashburton cemetery. The Rev. J. F. Fcron conducted the funeral service, assisted by members of his lodge.
