PRISONER’S REQUEST

LEAVE UNDER SUPERVISION TO BE MARRIED (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELIGBAII.) AUCKLAND. July 26 An uncommon request, that the Judge make a direction when sentencing the prisoner that he be given a brief leave under supervision in order to be married, was made by Mr Noble on behalf of a prisoner, Edward Donovan, who was charged in the Supreme Couri to-day with breaking and entering, and being in possession of house-breaking instruments. After having sentenced the prisoner to a long period of imprisonment Mr Justice Fair referred to the request for an opportunity for the prisoner to marry. “That matter,” he said, “can be considered by the authorities. I don’t wish to say anything that may prejudice the prisoner in the matter, as I don’t feel disposed to say anything in favour of the application.”
