TOURIST’S PRAISE FOR DOMINION

♦ RELATIVE OF MR FLORENZ \ ZIEGFELD “There is a splendid tourist organisation in New Zealand; in no country have I found arrangements so perfect,” said Mr F. F. C. Ziegfeld, sugar exporter, of Java, who is visiting Christchurch during a world tour, to a reporter last evening. Mr Ziegfeld is a second cousin and a god-child of Mr Florenz Ziegfeld, the famous American theatrical producer. “The tourist in New Zealand can be very lazy; he does not have to hasten,” said Mr Ziegfeld. “He can get a book and work from the beginning to the end. Of course, he has to pay for it all, but he does not feel Mr Ziegfeld had a few words of criticism as well. He said that he had 12 meals in the North Island with cabbage as the only vegetable. This, however, might be merely an unfortunate accident, and he might find things better if he stayed in the country. In common with many other tourists, he also criticised the lack of heating in the hotels, stating that he was not pleased at having to pay 2s 6d extra for heating at a hotel in Rotorua. If it had been included in the tariff it would not have been noticed, but it did not sedhi right that heating should be extra, as it should be taken for granted that the hotels would be warm. He had to pay for heating in Sydney, as well, but only Is. “I am very glad I decided to come to New Zealand.” he added, however. “The scenic attractions are very fine, and I would recommend anyone to come here.” Mr Ziegfeld said that Java was now in a second depression, which he attributed largely to conditions in America, where there was a great deal ox experimenting at present. The demand for colonial produce had fallen off, especially such things as coffee and ted, which were not absolutely necessary, and could be cut down in times of depression.
