SIX PERSONS INJURED
CAR STRIKES POWER POLE

Six persons were injured in a motor smash at Silverstream at 4,45 a.m. today, and through the damage caused to power lines by the car concerned hitting a power pole, electric current in the district was off for an hour. Those hurt were;— Miss Gladys Beale, Upper Hutt, injuries to both legs. Miss Maureen Mcßandall, Upper Hutt, shock and abrasions. Miss Owen Mcßandall, Upper Hutt, broken collarbone and head injuries. Leslie Mcßandall, Main road, Trentham, broken rib and leg injuries. Maurice O’Kane, Main road. Upper Hutt, cut hand and cut nose, Ernest Frederick Baillie, Trentham (the driver of the car), slight leg injuries. Baillie was driving toward Upper Hutt when his car skidded on the wet bitumen and struck a power pole at the entrance to St. Patrick’s College broadside on. The car was badly damaged. The three young women were taken to the Wellington Public Hospital. The men were able to go home after receiving medical attention.
LEFT LEG FRACTURED
J. Anderson, of 254 Fitzgerald avenue, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital shortly after 7,30 on Saturday evening, suffering from a fractured left leg, caused when he was struck by a car at the corner of Hereford street and Cambridge terrace. His condition was reported to be satisfactory. .
