WOOI.WORTHS HOLDINGS The directors of Woolworths Holdings, Ltd. (South Africa), have declared an interim dividend at the unchanged rate of 10 per cent, per annum. Payment will be made in South African currency. HUME STEEL Hume Steel, Ltd., is paying a halfyearly dividend on the 7i per cent, cumulative preference shares on July 14. BRITISH STEEL INDUSTRY REDUCTION IN FURNACES Compared with the American steel industry, which is working to only 6 per cent, of capacity, the British steel industry, with 80 per cent., is still fairly active, but it is showing signs of a further decrease. Advice received by air mail states that the number of furnaces in operation in Britain is being steadily reduced, and that the unions are protesting against this action in view of the increase above normal quantity in imports of foreign supplies.
