SMALL LOCAL TURNOVER PRICES OF MOST STOCKS FIRMER The Christchurch Stock Exchange had a quiet day yesterday. Apart from dealings in industrials and mining shares, the recorded turnover was negligible. Prices of most stocks dealt in revealed firmer markets.

UNLISTED STOCK Sale Reported 100 Kanieri .. .. 15 0 Government Bonds and Banks New Zealand Government Rural Bonds, due 1947, changed hands at £lO2 15s. Bank of New Zealand were firmer with sellers and business at 43s 6d, Union Banks were firmer on buyers’ offers £8 4s. Buyers of Goldsbrough, Morts raised their bids to 27s 6d, sellers at 28s 6d. Westport-Stockton Coal preference were weaker with business at 6s 9d and further sellers at 6s lid. Miscellaneous British Tobacco recovered to 46s 6d and 46s 3d. market closing 46s buyers, 46s 9d sellers. Broken Hill Proprietary rose to 58s 6d. sellers staying in at that price, buyers at 58s 4d. The contributing advanced to 35s Id. Electrolytic Zinc preference rose to 43s 9d and 43s 3d. sellers staying in at the higher price, buyers at 435. The ordinary were stronger with buyers at 37s 3d. G. J. Coles moved up to 80s 9d. and more were wanted at 80s lOd. Moturoa Oilfields were weaker with buyers and business at 5s Bd, sellers at 5s lOd. New Zealand Paper Mills were firmer at 20s 6d, Taranaki Oilfields rose sharply to 14r. and 14s 3d, and more were wanted at the higher price. A late sale of Wilcox Mofflin on Tuesday was reported at 6s 6d. and business yesterday was at that price, with further sellers at 6s sd. Mining Grey River were fractionally firmer at 12s 3d. market closing Id either way. Maori Gully remained unaltered at 5Ad. Broken Hill South rose sharply to 28s 7d, closing quotations 2d on either side. North Broken "Hill advanced to 40s Id, market closing Id cither way. Unlisted Stock Kanieri were steady at 255, apd closed with unsupported sellers at 25s 9d.
