IN AID OF PLUNKET SOCIETY
DANCE HELD AT OHOKA A dance in aid of the funds of the Ohoka branch of the Plunket Society was held in Mr R. G. Ward’s woolshed, Ohoka. Visitors were present from surrounding districts, and many from Christchurch. Music was played by Mrs Cook and Mr P. Waterrens, and extras by Mrs Mayer and Mr J. Hide. Mr E. Snellex was master of ceremonies. A competition was won by Mrs I. Treleaven. Amongst those present were Mr and Mrs R. G. Ward, Mr and Mrs W. Mayer, Mr and Mrs I. Treleaven, Mr and Mrs E. Snellex, Mr and Mrs V. Palmer, Mr and Mrs J. Hyde, Mr and Mrs F. Robertson (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs B. Smith, Mr and Mrs H. Dyer, Mesdames C. Skinner, P. Armstrong, C. Knight, R. C. Stewart (Kaiapoi), M. Hegan, J. Hall, Misses M. Hyde, L. Minchington, R. Pearson, M. Milne, Milne, Fogo, Campbell (Christchurch), E. Robertson (Christchurch), H. Power, F. Heron, P. Hall, and many others.
BUSH AND BIRDS Mr L. McCaskill gave an Interesting lecture on bush and birds to members of the Mairehau Women’s Institute and .their friends in the Mairehau Hall on Tuesday night.' Mr McCaskill showed, by excellent films, that the native birds of New Zealand have many enemies, and that they play an important part in the preservation of the forest. Mr McCaskill explained that vegetation is necessary to prevent flooding and erosion on the hillside, and pleaded for the preservation of native bush, too often ruthlessly destroyed. : Mr J. B.
