TROTTING PERMIT SOUGHT

CLUB AT KAIKOURA DECISION AT ANNUAL MEETING A decision to apply for a permit to hold a meeting next year was made at the annual meeting of the Kaikoura Trotting Club held on Tuesday evening. Mr W. S. Bennett presided. The balance-sheet showed the financial position to be very satisfactory, with a credit balance of £328 3s 9d. The assets were valued at £769 17s 3d. A vote of appreciation was passed to the president and secretary for their services. The president expressed appreciation of the support given him during his term of office. Although there was no meeting held this year at Kaikoura, he said that he felt sure there was a good chance of holding a successful meeting this coming year. Ohoka, took place on Tuesday. A short service was held in the Methodist Church. Mr Downs was closely associated with the Methodist circuit and for the last 23 years was superintendent of the Sunday School. He took a keen interest in local affairs. WOMEN’S HOCKEY DRAW FOR TOURNAMENT AT GREENDALE

The following is the draw for the six-a-side tournament, to be played at Greendale on Saturday next by the Malvern Women’s Hockey Sub-Associ-ation. Mr Colin Stevenson (Christchurch) spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs T. Greaves. Mr K. Greaves has left the district to take a position in Christchurch. Mrs S. Kuypers (Auckland) is staying with her sister, Mrs W. Leslie.

BALL AT HORNBY The Loyal Orange Lodge, No. 24A, held their annual ball in the Orange Hall, Hornby. A number of visiting lodge members were present f*pm kindred lodges. The music was supplied by Fred Smith’s dance orchestra. Mr J. Colligan was master of ceremonies. Novelty dances were won by Misses E. Earnshaw and partner, P. Moore and partner, and M. Hamilton, CARD EVENING AT .MEDBURY . A card evening and dance, organised by the Medbury Social Committee, were held recently. Winners of the cards were Mrs G. Topp, Mrs E. G. Dalzell, Mr T. Dalzell. Music for'dancing was played by Mrs J. Fletcher, and ■ extras by Mrs L. Plaisted, and Mrs E. G. Dalzell. Mr J. Fle'tcher was master of ceremonies. SPRINGSTON SOUTH SOCIAL Table tennis, cards, and dancing were enjoyed at the social evening of the Springston South Hall Committee. The prize-winners were Mrs Riordan, Mrs J. R. Tyson, Miss Nola Hoskin, Mr J. McVinnie, Mr H. Hoskin, "and Mr V. Greenslade, Music was played by Miss Molly Riordan. Mr H. Hoskin was master of ceremonies.
