FINANCES CAUSE CONCERN

‘The Acclimatisation Society “STRICTEST ECONOMY NECESSARY” A warning about the state of the finances of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was given by Mr C. H. Lawrence, chairman of the finance committee of the last council, at the first meeting of the new council last evening. Dr. D. McK. Dickson presided. Mr Lawrence said that at June 22 there was a credit balance of £574 lg Id, and that accounts to be passed for payment totalleu £428 13s lid. This would leave an approximate 'credit balance of £145. The .society paid salaries amounting to £92 16s 8d each month, and the members could not look forward to any great revenue until September. “The financial position is such as to cause some little concern, and the utmost and strictest economy will be necessary unless we are to delve very deeply into ovfr..reserves,” -said'Mr Lawrence.

Dr. Dickson had explained to the meeting earlier that the executive committee of the previous council had sanctioned the replacement of one. of the trucks. The new vehicle cost £2BO, and the trade-in on the old truck was £l4O, The old fruck had been valued in the books at £96, and had been in use for four years. In answer to a member, Mr Lawrence said that the expected revenue from the birds at the hatchery was about £2OO.
