ENTERTAINMENTS FOR PUPILS

BOARD REFUSES REQUEST OF HEADMASTERS (mess ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.' WELLINGTON, June 22. A request by the Wellington Headmasters’ Association that head teachers be authorised by the board to take groups of children to entertainments of recognised value in school hours was not approved at to-day’s meeting of the Wellington Education Board. ’The educational value of picture, musical, and dramatic entertainments was recently discussed," a letter stated. The headmasters recognised that the board’s regulation on the matter was at their own request, but the feeling of those present at the meeting was that these entertainments to-day diner considerably from those of a few years ago. It is fully recognised that schools should not be closed for this purpose, and that only those children who are actually attending a show would be rclfidscdt’* The chairman (Mr W. V, Dyer); I think we want to walk very warily in this, I don’t think we should agree. In any special case the consent of the board could be obtained. It was decided to inform the association that the board was prepared to consider such requests, provided -they came, from the headmaster and school committee. ",
