SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs M. J. Godby and Mr Robert Godby (England) will leave to-day to visit Mrs P. R. Woodhouse (Bluecliffs). Mrs J. G. Duncan (Douglas street) has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Miss Marjorie Baker (O tip via road) returned yesterday from a visit to the North Island. Miss Johnstone (Elizabeth street) has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Mrs Harold Elworthy (Craigmore) has returned from a visit to Mrs G. Pinckney (Southland). Mrs Lovcday (Palmerston North) and her son, Alan, who will play at t the orchestral concert on Tuesday night, are the guests of Mrs W. G. Hosken (Otipua road). Mr and Mrs Bruce Murray, who were at the Grosvenor Hotel, have returned to Braemar (Mackenzie Country). Mr and Mrs R. Kilgour (Onslow street) will leave on Wednesday for Wellington, where they will join the Wanganelia to spend a holiday in Sydney. They expect to be away about six weeks. DANCE AT HORNBY The women’s auxiliary committee of the Hornby branch of the Young Men’s Christian Association held a successful dance in the Orange Hall, Hornby. BOWLING CLUB’S DANCE The annual dance of the New Brighton Bowling Club was held in the Masonic Hall, which had been decorated for the occasion with ferns grown and presented by Captain A. W. Owles. Messrs L. A. Besley, W. Watts, W. Larcombe, S. Weston, and L. Lawrence were in charge Of arrangements, and the music was played by Miss Mavis Holden’s Orchestra. Mr J. S. ST. JAMES’ PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The Ladles' Guild of St. James’ Presbyterian Church, Spreydon, held a successful evening social in the Church Hall, Barrington street . The Rev. J. Gemmell presided. Miss MUlicent Jennings and party, Miss Story, Mrs Holmes. Mr and Miss Cochrane, Master Keith Scott. Mr Brown, Miss Torkington, and Mrs Collins contributed entertaining items. Competitions were won by Misses I. McMillan and M. Martin. Members of the social committee were Mesdames Fehsenfeld, Gemmell. Graham, Clarke, Woodcock, Wornall, and McCracken (secretary). Members of the guild provided supper. , druids’ Annual ball The Olive Branch Druids’ Lodge (Hornby) held its annual ball in the Orange Hall Hornby, where there was a large, attendance of brother lodge meters, tmd an enjoyable evening was spent dicing to the music Played ?y Tom Robson s Melody Makers.
