Miss E. Spring and Miss G. Hungerford, school nurses, will leave on Monday night for Wellington to take a refresher course. Mrs G. E. F. Kingscote (Fendalton) and Mrs Rossmore Cracroft Wilson (Riccarton) will be visitors to Kaikoura for the golf tournament at the week-end. Mrs E. J. Parrott will leave this month for Australia to visit her daughter, Mrs Stubbs, Sydney. Miss Noel McGeorge (Dunedin) is the guest of Mrs H. J. McGeorge, Hereford street. Mrs H. Turner Jennings (Papanui road), who has been spending a short holiday with Mrs W. Guildford Todd, Rotherham, has returned home, * Mrs C. P. Goldstone (Hokitika), who has been visiting her mother, Mrs M. E. Tobin, Birdwood avenue, is now the guest of Mrs C. J. Goldstone, Christchurch. Mr and Mrs J. R. Haines (Duvauchelle) left yesterday for a motor tour of the North Island. Miss Betty Aird (Papanui road) is visiting Auckland for three weeks. At a meeting of the Canterbury Women Teachers’ Association held last night, members stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of one of their members, Miss Annie Spence, and a vote of sympathy was passed with her sister, Miss Mary Spence. The Harmon Trophy for the most outstanding American airwoman of 1937 has been awarded by the Ligue Internationale des Aviateurs to Miss Jacqueline Cochran, of New York. The trophy was presented to her by Mrs Roosevelt, wife of the President of the United States. Miss Cochran broke the national women’s record for 620 miles, and set up new national records for the 62 miles distance in 1937. Miss Jeanne Stourton, a niece of Viscount Southwell, and at one time secretary to Sir Austen Chamberlain, is to marry the Hon. 'Ralph Robert Watts Sherman Stonor, only son of Lord and Lady Camoys, of Stonor Park, Hertfordshire. Besides being an extremely efficient secretary, Miss Stourton has been a social Secretary, a film extra in the recent Rdbert Taylor film, “A Yank at Oxford,” and companion secretary to Miss Barbara Hutton. ; Mr A. W. Beaven, a director of Messrs Beath and Company, who with Mrs Beaven, will leave next week for a trip to Britain, entertained heads of departments at Death’s night at a pleasant evening tea party. Mr H. D. Acland, Mr C. Ogilvie (manager), Mr Hartley, and Miss M. Trent wished Mr and Mrs Beaven an enjoyable trip .and assured them that a Warm' Welcome would await them on their return. Mrs W. B. Ramsay (Akaroa) was hostess at an afternoon 500 party fflyen in aid of the Akaroa Croquet Club’s travelling expenses. Prizes jvere won by Mrs A. D. Le Lievre and Miss L. Vangioni. Kearney, A. M. Moore (Ellesmere), A. M. Helps, G. Hammond, T, E. McKenzie, and Miss L. Vangioni. , The fortnightly “500” afternoon party for relief of distress was held at the home of Mrs E. E. Roberts, Addington. Those present were Mesdames Borley, Retallick, Mit-. chell, Parlane, Israelson, Templeton, Anderson, P. Ranee, Hawker, Rennie, Presland, Harper, Malone, Cook, E. Barrett, Smith, Argyle, Blair', Burford, Wootten, Hemmingway, Hartigan, and W. Hobbs. The prize-winners were Mesdames P. Ranee, Israelson, and Smith.
