DAMAGES OF $678 AWARDED

WATERSIDER’S CLAIM AT grbymouth [THE PRESS Special Service.] GREYMOUTH, June 3. A verdict was given by the jury late to-night for the plaintiff, Frederick William Woolhouse, a watersider, of Hokitika, for dartiages totalling £678 11s Bd, in a claim lor £ll6l 5s 8d against the Eclipse Shipping Company, Ltd., Auckland, after a two days’ hearing in the Supreme Court at Greymouth, before Mr Justice Northcroft. Argument on points of law raised by the defence was reserved until Tuesday next. The plaintiff, who was represented by Mr W. Douglas Taylor, alleged that while employed by the defendant company loading the ship Hokitika at Hokitika on January 23. 1937, he suffered injuries to the right leg and shock through being struck by a sling of timber, the accident being caused by the negligence of the defendants or their servants. The defendant company, which was represented by Mr J. W. Hannan, with him Mr M. B. James, of Hokitika, entered a general denial of negligence.
