MOTOR-CYCLIST'S DEATH

ACCIDENT NEAR BURNHAM

MACHINE STRUCK BY CAR

While riding a motor-cycle on the Main South road on Saturday afternoon Laurence Joseph Kiesanowski, a single man. aged 26, of 506 Armagh street, suffered injuries from which he later died. He was motoring towards Christchurch with his brother. David Kiesanowski. aged 24, of the same address, as pillion-rider. The brothers had been: shooting and their machine was loaded with rabbits and equipment. At 5.40 they were nearing the Burnham railway station on their way home when the motor-cycle was struck by a motor-car being driven south by William Henry Amos, of Short street. Ashburton.

Amos apparently pulled out to pass another vehicle travelling in the same direction. The rear mudguard of his car bore the full force of the accident, in which Laurence Kiesanowski suffered amputation of the right leg below the knee. During his removal to hospital by the St. John Ambulance, he remained conscious. He died at 12.45 yesterday afternoon. An inquest was opened at the hospital before the Coroner, Mr E. C. Lewey, yesterday afternoon. After evidence of identification, it was adjourned sine die.

David Kiesanowski suffered extensive lacerations of the right thigh and knee. He was admitted to hospital, where his condition last evening was satisfactory. *
