PRESENTATION, OP'* AWARDS FINAL DEMONSTRATION CONCERT A large audience at the Civic Theatre bn Saturday night .enjoyed the. excellent and varied programme provided by successful competitors In the Christchurch Competitions Society’s twenty-eighth annual festival. This was the last demonstration concert held by the society. The occasion was taken to present- the special awards gained during the competitions, championships, scholarships, and medals. , ■ . . . After the presentations the president of the society, Mr S. C. Andrew, presented the secretary, Mr T. F. Hall, who has tilled this position, for 22 years, with the society’s gold monogram, superimposed with ■ crossed pens. Mr Andrew also took the opportunity to present the pastpresident. Mr Cyril J. Goode, with the past-president’s badge. The following is the list of awards presented:— , Championships—Womens vocal. Miss Dorothy , Llebert; pianoforte. Miss Lois Manning; Junior elocution. Jack Robb; Seann Trlubhais, Joan Bussell. Scholarships—Elocution, Miss Beryl Baggs: girls’ vocal. Miss Alisa Cramp ton; women’s vocal. Miss Gwenneth Lewis; Men’s vocal, Noel Burtt; society’s pianoforte, Lola Anderson: Begg’s pianoforte, Jean . Anderson: Stacey and Hawker s dancing, Lenore Upton; Maunsey Memorial, James Rendel. , . Gunner Memorial medal (singing). May Allen. Idaho challenge cup (choir), Woolston School. ... _ . The programme was as follows: —Duet. “Valse des Fleurs,” D. Jones and R. Aldridge; song. "I Heard You Singing.” Thos. Reid; tap dance. Valerie Stewart: duet, "Walata Pol,” Bel Foster and G. Ardagh; recitation, “Pipes of Lucknow." Jack Robb; solo, “Operatic,” Jean Sinclair; toe dance, Gladys Rose; song. "The Dew Glistens," May Allen; duo, “Spider and Fly." Shirley Hewson and Margaret Yates; song, “Fishermen.” T. G. Hatch; piano solo. “Rhapsodic.” Lola Anderson: acrobatic, Pat Fraser; duo. "Wonderful You,” Norma Turner and M. Dixon; song, “Vagabond,’ Noel Burtt; duo, C. Baldwin and B. "Warden; harmonica band.
