COMPETITION AT METHVEN The annual field roots competition of the Methven Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Thursday. Thirty-four entries were placed in front of the judges, Messrs Leicester T. Wright, F. J. Jenkins (turnips) and Mr McKay, of the Department of Agriculture (green feed and potatoes). The entries were not up to the usual local standard because of the unusual weather, and the pests which have been very disturbing to farmers this year. . . The details are as follows (points awarded in each of the root classes are weight 40, soundness and quality 40, freedom from weeds 10. evenness of crop 10, total 100): Eight acres, white fleshed turnips (8 entries): T. E. Kneale, 96 points, 34} tons an acre, 1; W. K. Wilson, 92 points, 34i tons an acre. 2; W. Marshall, 91 points, 34i tons an acre, 3; George Kelly, 90 points, 30£ tons an acre; R. J Low, 88 points, 29 tons an acre; Estate S. G. Holmes, 86 points, 33 tons an acre; B Cotterell, 78 points, 28* tons an acre; L. L. Richards. 74 points, 23 tons an acre.
