EMPLOYMENT OF BOYS
SATISFACTION WITH NEW ARRANGEMENTS
POSITION OF VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE COMMITTEE
Satisfaction with the new arrangements for the conduct of the wonJt of! the Christchurch Boys' Vocational Guidance and Employment Committee by the Department of Labour was ex-1 pressed at the annual meeting of the' committee yesterday by the secretary, Mr G. M. Keys. Mr Keys said that in future all expenses and cash would be handled by the department, and in spite of petty difficulties it was going to be much more satisfactory than the former system of obtaining grants from the department Arrangements were also being made for the establishment of a centre in the city for the housing of the guiding bodies of both boys' and girls' activities. In reply to a question Mr Keys said that the committee had no liability m the boys' farm training scheme. There would be considerable assets in the winding-up of the scheme. It was an incorporated company and some time would elapse before its affairs were completed. When that was done it would remain for the committee to decide what was to be done with the assets. The annual report had been presented at a previous meeting and only the cash statement, showing a credit balance of £l3 Os Id, was read The election of officers resulted — Chairman, Mr A. L. McEldowney; do-puty-chairlnan, Mr A. C. Maxwell; secretary, Mr Keys. A simpler form of constitution was adoptea at the meeting to meet the new arrangement by which the committee through a combined executive with the governed body of the girls' activities will act in an advisory capacity to the employment and guidance officers appointed by the Departments of Labour and Education. Messrs McEldowney and Maxwell were added to the combined executive.
