HAND pLOWN OFF IN EXPLOSION

DUNEDIN, April 28,

Working it Manuka Creek in the Lawrence district on Sunday, Stanley Boatwood, aged 35, employed on the public works, had his right hand blown off by an explosion of gelignite. Boatwood was blowing up stumps when the explosion occurred.' He was removed to the Milton Hospital In a critical condition.

LEG FRACTURED

When he slipped on the footpath at the corner of Colombo dnd King streets about 5.45 last evehing, Patrick Sheehan, who lives at 270 Milton street, suffered a fracture of the right leg. He was admitted to hospital, and his condition last night was satisfactory.

COLLISION WITH TRUCK

Two riders were injured when a motor-cycle collided with a truck on the Gebbie’s Pass road yesterday morning. They were Lester Colhaine, of 143 Cnanford street, aged 29, who suffered body and leg injuries, and Edward Halkett, aged 49, of 104 Huxley street, who suffered injuries to the head. „ . (PRES!) ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) HAMILTON. April 28. A fatal accident occurred in Nixon street, Hamilton east, late yesterday, when Bett'y Theresa Dalgety, the six-year-old daughter of Mr C. J. S. Dalf;ety, Nixon street, was struck by a orry and killed. The child was riding a tricycle and was struck by the back wheel of a lorry which is owned by the Hamilton Borough Council and driven by Cedric Waters.

RIVER TRUST ELECTIONS

Elections for seats on the Waimakariri River Trust will be necessary in the Waimakariri East, Waimakariri West, and Oust divisions. In the other two divisions, Central. and Eyre, no election is necessary, as the number of nominations, which closed at noon yesterday, is the same as the number of seats, and the candidates have been declared elected. The members for these two divisions wijl be:—-Central, Messrs F. W. Freeman, H. B. Anderson, George Gould, and C. T. Aschman; Eyre, Mr R. O. Dixon. Candidates for the other divisions are: Waimakariri East. Messrs T. C. Newnham and W. P. Spencer, West, Messrs W. F. Mcthur and J. W. McGlinchy; Cust, Messrs R. F. Joyce and H. E, Evans. The election will be held on May 11.

SUMNER MAYORAL CANDIDATE ADDRESSES ELECTOR

A meeting of Sumner residents was held last evening in the interests of Mr F. W.‘ J. Murdoch, a candidate in the election for the Sumner Mayoralty Mr W. J. Cunningham presided. Mr Murdoch outlined his policy— Continuance of the loan proposals, reading in the Valley area,-and permanent surfacing of roads, encouragement of the Government housing scheme in the borough, the establishment of a retail department in the borough buildings for the sale of gas stoves and electrical equipment, and the possible reduction of electrical charges. A committee consisting of Mrs L Retallick, Messrs W. G. Roberts, A. Freeman, W. J. Cunningham, and R. Varney was set up to assist Mr Murdoch.

FURTHER NOMINATIONS AT SUMNER

Further nominations received yesterday for the Sumner Borough Council elections were:—The Rev. W. R. Martin. Messrs J. L. Gant, C. Roy Harris. and Isaac J. Wilscfn.
