CRUISE LINERS AT MELBOURNE
TOURISTS TAKE DEPARTURE FOR NEW ZEALAND (Received April 7, 12.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, April 6. Having completed rapid tours of Sydney and Melbourne, wealthy tourists of the luxury cruising liners, Empress of Britain and Reliance, left Melbourne to-night for New Zealand. The first call will be at Milford Sound, which, they have been informed, is the greatest sight they will see on the whole cruise. Extraordinary scenes marked the arrival and departure of the Empress of Britain to-day. It is estimated that 250,000 people visited Port Melbourne to see the two vessels. Hundreds of police were needed to regulate car traffic. The wharf was jammed with a solid mass of people as the Empress of Britain sailed at 6 p.m. The Reliance left at 7 p.m.
