BASKETBALL
ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A credit balance of £ll7 8s 8d was shown at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Basketball Association, held last evening. It was decided that three selectors for the Canterbury representative team be chosen annually. A new system of naming the grades was decided upon, the senior grade to remain with the same name, but the senior A, senior B, junior B, and C grades to be called second, third, fourth, and fifth grades respectively. The following officers were elected: — Patroness. Mrs W. Brown; president, Mrs K. I. Macintosh: vice-presidents. Mrs G. Bi»st, Mrs W. Newsome, Mrs W. J. McKenzie. Mrs R. Lane: secretary, Mrs J. D. Carney; treasurer. Miss I. Weston; honorary auditor. Mr P. C. Browne; ground supervisor, Mr M. Kershaw. For the first time in the history of the association players were elected to the executive, from the senior, second, and third grades. Those elected were:—Senior grade. Miss V. Flood (Digby’s); second grade. Miss F. Dawson (Mairehau); third grade. Miss A. Bennett (Corsair). Entries for the competitions will close next Saturday. Grading day and the opening of the season will be held on Saturday, April 23, and the competitions will begin on Saturday, April 30.
y.M.C.A. LEAGUE COMPETITION Results of the first night’s play in the Young Men’s Christian Association Basketball League competitions were:— Men’s Matches—Dunstable 20 beat Y.M.D. (Soccer) 15. Y.M. Gym. 14 beat Victoria 11, Dee Jay A 20-beat Y.M.D. (Res.) 13. Hay’s 16 beat Gordon and Gotch 8, Bunting’s 12 beat Dee Jay B 8, Farmers won by default against Smith and Smith. Women’s Matches—Kia Ora 30 beat Gordon and Gotch 22, Dee Jay 54 beat Srhith and Smith 11, Dunstable 32 beat Nugget 16, Weeks, Ltd., 42 beat Monarch Major 16.
