AWARD FOR CARETAKERS AND LIFTMEN MINIMUM WAGE OF £5/2/6 FOR WATCHMEN An award for cleaners, caretakers, and lift attendants in the Taranaki, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland industrial districts has been made by the Arbitration Court. The award came into force on April 1 and will operate until March 31, 1939. Any female lift attendant employed when the award came into operation may continue at a minimum wage of £2 12s 6d a week. Watchmen must be paid not less, than £5 2s 6d a week and a 46-hour week is provided for them. Workers who are regularly required to work on statutory holidays will receive eight consecutive working days’ holiday after 12 months’ service, in addition to the annual holiday of one week on full pay to which all workers under the award are 'entitled. Other provisions are that implements and materials, as well as any special uniform, must be supplied by the employers.
