OBITUARY
MR E. HUNT 4 Mr E. Hunt, of Okain’s Bay. died recently at the residence of his ifaiwfc. ter, Mrs H. L. Mason. He was SSjens of age, and was born at Pimpernel Dorsetshire. At the age of 15 years he joined % Navy and made several trips to the Dominion before settling in this codatry. He was on the ship Otaki wfaiii transported troops to South Africa ddring the Zulu war. He landed in Okahft Bay 60 years ago. He started wdick there in the sawmill of Mr E. J. Tbacker, sen., and was later occupied in sawmilling at Mr George Mason’s mill at Okain’s Bay and later at Saxton’s min at Robinson's Bay. He also worked on the Jane Douglas. Cygnet, and Jobs Anderson, which traded with Bards Peninsula, besides running the ketch Annie to Lyttelton on his own account
Only a few years ago he walked from Okain’s Bay to Akaroa and back a distance of about 24 miles—a remarkable feat for a man more than 80 years of age. He was married in 1883 to Miss Rasmussen, of Le Son’s Bay. Members of his family still living are Messrs'S. and Arthur Hunt (Napier). Robert Hunt (West Coast), John Hunt (Papanui), and Mrs H. L. Mason Bay).
