MINISTER’S INVITATION TO TRADE UNIONS
(UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received March 22, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 22. The “Daily Mail” says a great armament “speed-up” ■is foreshadowed in Sir Thomas Inskip’s invitation to 36 shipbuilding and engineering unions, with a membership of 500,000 throughout the country. to meet him on Thursday to discuss labour shortage problems.
It is understood these include the introduction of, labour from other industries, the training of unskilled and semi-skilled workers, and the relaxation of the apprenticeship scheme.
The Trades Union Congress will discuss these and similar issues at a special meeting to-day.
