REPRESENTATIVE TEAM BEATEN BULLER COMPETITION MATCH The Buller cricket representatives were beaten by "The Rest" in a match played at Birchtield. Buller batted first, scoring 171. G. Wheatley 47, retired, and A. Dunn 42 showed good form. Others who reached double figures were A. Moseley 22, R. Griffiths 16, and J. Mason 10. The bowler with the best average was D. Bromley, with three wickets lor 17. I "The Rest" pussud their opponents' score with eight wickets down, and went on to score 176 for eight. R. I Harden compiled a useful 40 runs. W. Gaudin 28, D. Bromley 28, W. Neighbours 23. S. Allot 17, and F. Marshall 15 batted well. R. Griffiths took three wickets for 42, and N. Nottle .two for 28. St. Canlce's Beaten Mainlv through a fine innings of 69 by J. Smart, and excellent bowling by G. Anderson, Tiroroa scored a good win against the Buller competition leaders, St. Canice's, on Saturday. Anderson was the only other batsman to reach double figures, for Tiroroa, his 28 being useful when he stayed with Smart at the wickets. The innings closed for 123. N. Noltle was St. Canice's most successful bowler, with six wickets for 53 runs. The St. Canice's batsmen, with the exception of G. Wheatley 32, and D. Bromley 16, , failed to get set, and the side ma<fe only 77.

SITTING AT GREYMOUTH For cycling at night at Runanga without a light, Charles Dominic O'Neill was fined 10s by Mr Raymono. Ferner, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court at Greymouth yesterday. For casting offensive matter, Ernest Claude Brisbane, who pleaded guilty, was fined £l. For disorderly behaviour while drunk in Mawhera quay, Maurice Taylor was fined £l. A first offender, who did not appear, was fined 5s for being on licensed premises after hours. For selling liquor after hours on February 20, the licensee of the Rapahoe Hotel, John Joseph Ryan (Mr J. W. Hannan), who pleaded guilty, was fined £2. Further charges against Ryan of exposing liquor for sale and opening for sale were withdrawn by the police. Two boys, aged 14 years and 12: years, were dealt with at a sitting o.f the Children's Court on a charge of theft of a fountain pen, and another, 15 years of age, on a charge of cycling at night without a light. LARRY'S CREEK BRIDGE ON FIRE

The combined road and rail traffic bridge at Larry's Creek, on the Reef-ton-Westport road, was found by motorists to be on lire on Sunday afternoon. Some buckets of water from the stream soon subdued the flames before much damage was done to the structure.

The Reefton Fire Brigade were summoned, but by the time the brigade arrived, the Are wa>s out. Sparks from bush fires, which had been burning in the district for some days, are thought to have been the cause.

Fire broke out again about 10 p.m., and the Reefton Fire Brigade went to the scene of the blaze to assist. The flames were soon extinguished and it was found that the piling of the bridge was badly burnt. The structure is being used by the usual train service to Inangahua Junction. LICENSED VICTUALLERS' PICNIC The annual picnic organised by the licensed victuallers of Hokitika was held at Flowery Creek on Sunday. The weather was excellent and a. large crowd attended. A large programme of sports for children and adults was held. SHIPPING PORT OF GREYMOUTH GREYMOUTH, March 7. The Titokl will leave Wellington today for Greymouth, where she is due to-morrow night to load coal for Tarakohe and Nelson. The Kaimai sailed on Sunday afternoon for Napier and Gisborne. The Poolta sailed on Sunday afternoon for Petone, Miramar, and Wellington. The Miro arrived this morning from New Plymouth with explosives. The Totara left Bruce Bay on Sunday with timber for New. Plymouth. The Karepo will leave Auckland tonight for Greymouth, via Portland. She is due on Monday next, to load timber and coal for Auckland. The Gabriella is due to leave Wellington to-night, and is due here on Wednesday to load timber for Sydney and Newcastle. The Hokitika is due to-night from Wellington with cargo for Greymouth and Hokitika. PORT OF WESTPORT WESTPORT, March 7. The Hokitika arrived yesterday from Wellington and left this morning for Greymouth. The Canopus is loading at Westport for Auckland, and will leave on Saturday. The Kakapo sailed early yesterday morning for Lyttelton and Wellington. The Kaimiro will sail from Wellington to-morrow, and is due here on Wednesday to part-load for Wellington, completing at Greymouth. The Kakapo is due on return from Wellington on Thursday to load for Auckland. The Wingatui will sail on Wednesday from Wellington with general cargo for Westport, and is due on Thursday to load for Wellington.
